Spark Caspians in Rufford, Lancashire, England, was founded upon the Iranian foundation mare, Shirine*. Shirine was rescued by Louise Firouz from life as a pack horse in Iran. Her unusual light red dun colouring has passed to her daughter, Spark Shirine Shara. Shirine died in 2000 aged 30 years, despite an assumption that she would never reach old age due to a spinal injury sustained during her early years of toil. The last few years of her life were enjoyed as nursemaid to the stud foals.
